Privacy Policy
TryBench helps people practise SQL, AI prompting and digital safety. This page explains, in plain language, what we collect about you, why, and what you can do about it. Last updated 4 November 2026.
Who we are
TryBench runs the website trybench.app. For any question about your data, or to ask us to delete it, email hello@trybench.app.
What we collect
When you make an account
- Your email address.
- Your full name. You type it in, or Google gives it to us if you choose to sign in with Google. It is printed on your certificates.
- Your password, if you sign up with email. Our sign-in service stores it in scrambled (hashed) form. We cannot read it.
As you learn
- Which lessons you have passed, your points, the days you practised and your streak.
- A record of each graded attempt: the lesson, whether you passed, how long it took, whether you revealed the model answer, and when.
- Certificates we issue to you: the certificate ID, your name, the course, the date and how many labs you passed.
We do not save a copy of the text you type into lessons on our servers.
Only if you choose
- A public portfolio page. It is off until you switch it on, and you can switch it off again. While it is on, anyone with the link can see what the page shows.
- A donation. Payments are handled by Paystack. We do not receive your card details.
On your device
Your browser stores your progress, drafts, settings and sign-in session so the app works and remembers you. You can clear this in your browser settings. If you are not signed in, your progress lives only on that device.
Technical data
Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, sees technical details of each visit, such as your IP address and browser type, to deliver the site and block abuse.
What we do not do
- We do not show ads or sell your data.
- We do not add advertising or third-party analytics scripts to our pages.
AI lessons
When you run an AI lesson while signed in, the text you wrote is sent to Google's Gemini service so it can write a response. We do not keep a copy of that text. Google handles it under its own terms. Please do not type passwords, secrets, client data or other people's personal details into lessons.
Why we use your data
- To run your account, save your progress and sync it between your devices.
- To grade lessons and issue certificates that others can verify.
- To send emails you need, such as confirming your email and resetting your password.
- To keep the service secure and stop abuse, and to understand whether lessons work.
Certificates are public on purpose
A certificate exists so that someone, such as an employer, can check it. Anyone who has a certificate ID can see the name on it, the course, the date and how many labs were passed. They cannot see your email address.
Who processes your data for us
- Supabase: our database and sign-in service. Our database is hosted in the European Union (Ireland).
- Cloudflare: hosting and security for trybench.app.
- Resend: sends our account emails.
- Google: sign-in with Google, if you use it, and the Gemini service for AI lessons.
- Paystack: donations, if you make one.
Some of these companies handle data in other countries, including the United States. They use their own safeguards for that.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and learning record while your account exists. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your profile, your learning record and your certificate records within 30 days. After that, your certificate IDs can no longer be verified.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to show you your data, correct it, give you a copy, or delete it. You can also ask us to stop using it in a particular way. Email hello@trybench.app from the address on your account and we will reply. If you are unhappy with our answer you can complain to your data protection authority, for example the Nigeria Data Protection Commission or the UK Information Commissioner's Office.
Children
TryBench is for people aged 16 and over. If you think a child has made an account, email hello@trybench.app and we will delete it.
Security
We use encrypted connections and database rules that stop learners reading each other's records. No online service is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
Changes
If we change this page we will update the date at the top. If a change matters a lot, we will make that clear on the site.
