Step-by-Step Thinking

Get more accurate answers on tricky questions by asking AI to show its work.

Why this matters

AI can get math and logic wrong when it rushes. Asking for steps makes the answer more reliable and lets you check the working.

Rushed Answers Skip Steps

If the AI jumps straight to an answer on a math or logic question, it often gets it wrong, like a person doing mental math too fast.

In real life: Ask someone "what is 35 plus 20% more, times 400?" and they might blurt a wrong number. Give them paper to work it out, and they usually get it right.

Ask It to Show Its Work

Add "Work through this step by step". The AI writes out each step, and you can check its thinking.

In real life: A teacher marks "show your working" on an exam. If the answer is wrong, the working shows where it went wrong. Step-by-step AI answers let you do the same.

Ask for a Clear Final Line

Ask it to end with a line like "FINAL ANSWER: ...". Then the result is easy to find after all the steps.

In real life: A clear last line, like FINAL ANSWER:, means you do not have to hunt for the result after many steps.

Your practice task

Have the AI solve the Lagos bakery question below step by step (labeled Step 1, Step 2, …) and finish with one line in the format FINAL ANSWER: ₦___.

How to do it

  1. Read the bakery question above.
  2. Ask the AI to work step by step and label each step (Step 1, Step 2).
  3. Ask it to finish with one line: FINAL ANSWER: ₦___.
  4. Press Run proof.

Practice it for free in the app. You get instant checks that show what you got right and what to fix. A lesson takes about two minutes and you can try as many times as you like.

Quick reference: Show-Your-Work Rule
